+ What makes our organic bone broth powders so great?

The main factors that make our organic bone broth powders stand out are highlighted by our long simmer time, our passionate support of organic and regenerative farming and our steadfast commitment to producing high quality, real food products that taste great too!

If you've ever made your own bone broth at home you will fully understand that it is not exactly a 'fast' process!! The magic is in the long simmer time.

In order to extract all of the beneficial nutrients from the bones, such as collagen and gelatin, anti-inflammatory compounds, and minerals, they must be simmered for at least 24 hours. And this is where we differ from other store bought and homemade bone broths – our difference is time. We simmer our beef and chicken organic bone broths for 48 hours!!! Skip the slow simmer time, and you’ll end up with a regular stock or broth that may have a few minerals but won’t contain any of the proteins or other nutrients that give organic bone broth its unique healing properties. Medicinal ingredients such as ginger, turmeric and cinnamon not only add to the potential healing properties but contributes to the delicious result.

Our organic vegetable miso broth is the perfect alternative for our vegetarian and vegan friends and is more than just a usual vegetable stock. While it does not provide the gut healing benefits of high amino acids, the inclusion of certified organic agar-agar provides a digestive benefit and anti-inflammatory properties.

We often hear from customers that their own homemade bone broths completely lack flavour and the effort of the process makes this even more disheartening. With a talented and passionate chef such as Tony creating our recipes, this is just another unique quality of our organic bone broth powders. Tony’s attention to detail and his respect and talent with flavours ensures that each batch of our organic bone broths contain just the right amount of all the good things to ensure the most delicious flavour profile.

The flavour and the nutrient density of our organic bone broth powders can be difficult to recreate with busy lives and jam packed schedules which is why we do it for you!!

+ Why do we turn a liquid bone broth into an organic bone broth powder?

When we first began incorporating organic bone broth it into our diet we found that managing fresh liquid bone broths had some limitations.

We were inspired to add another step to our production process to create an easily reconstituted organic bone broth powder that would still maintain the nutrient density and bioavailability while making the management easier and more convenient.

We have opted to utilise dehydration as the process to create our organic bone broth powders. The dehydration process occurs over long periods of time (20 hours) at a low temperatures (62 degrees) hence it has no impact on the nutrient quality of the organic bone broth liquid. The process simply removes the water content, leaving behind the protein, nutrients and minerals which provide the benefits of our organic bone broth powders.

The end result?

• A versatile and convenient organic bone broth powder

• Full of real food, healing nutrition

• Free from additives, preservatives and fillers

• A time saver for your busy life

• Easily reconstituted as you need it

• Shelf stable for 12 months

• Easy to use and manage

• Perfect for travel

+ Why is using organic ingredients so important?

If you’re looking to access the nourishing, healing benefits of bone broth, using organic ingredients is a must. So to make the highest quality, nutrient dense bone broth powder, it is crucial for us to utilise certified organic bones.

Utilising certified organic ingredients ensures that the animals have not been treated with antibiotics hormones or other synthetic medications. Organic farming is a crucial factor in ensuring that the grass the animals are raised on is free from chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers too. These agricultural chemicals accumulate in animal bones and would therefore end up in our organic bone broth powders too. The same also applies to the vegetables and spices we use in our recipes.

One the most detrimental and widely used conventional agricultural chemicals is glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round Up. It is well known that the antibacterial and antimicrobial impacts of this widespread use have led to detrimental impacts on the health of our soil. The microbiome of our soil mirrors the microbiome of our gut fed to us through the plant and animal products we consume. Our main inspiration for creating organic bone broth powders was for their gut healing potential so it stands to reason why using certified organic ingredients is so important!

We are also particularly passionate about regenerative farming principles and farming in conjunction with nature and believe that these are the way to create a sustainable future for our planet, our health and the microbial diversity of our soil and ourselves. How our ingredients are raised and farmed is of utmost importance to us and the sustainable quality of our products. And this is exactly why we choose to support and use Cherry Tree Organics to make our nutrient dense, certified organic bone broth powders.

+ Want to know more about the nutrient and mineral density of our organic bone broth powders?

One of the things that sets our products apart from the many broth and collagen powders on the market is the protein content.

Our organic bone broth powders are made up of 72-75% protein!!!

The protein content of our organic bone broth powders relates to the amount of they contain. The collagen content of the high quality, certified organic bones, ligaments and cartilage we use is leeched into the broth during the long simmering process. When cooked, collagen forms gelatin and it is the amino acids that make up this smaller protein that play important physiological roles and have such a healing effect on the gut and therefore the whole body.

+ What is the difference between bone broth and stock?

It is easy to get confused by the terms ‘stock’ and ‘broth’, especially when they are often used interchangeably and there is conflicting information out there.

It really comes down to time.

While a ‘stock’ is also made from bones and generally contains vegetables, it is cooked for shorter periods of time (can vary from 2-12 hours). This process creates a nice base for cooking but does not have the nutrient density of a high quality bone broth.

A bone broth includes marrow bones, tendons and ligaments in addition to bones and vegetables and is simmered on low heat for a period of at least 24 hours. And with ours you’re getting a 48 hours simmer which means even more nutrition for your buck. The long, gentle simmering causes the bones and ligaments to release collagen, healing compounds and minerals into the liquid and it is this nutrition that ends up in our organic bone broth powders.

+ Can I make it myself?

Absolutely! A good bone broth can definitely be made at home. It is important to use high quality organic ingredients if you want to create a high quality, nutrient dense bone broth. Access to organic bones can be the first challenge when it comes to making your own bone broth.

Another catch is time. While the process is relatively uncomplicated, it is lengthy. The bone broth needs to be simmered for up to 48 hours to extract all the goodies from the bones, which means leaving it to simmer overnight and often while you are away from home. And it can be said that it leaves the house smelling particularly brothy which may not please some family members!

While there are plenty of recipes to be found online that will give you a good start, getting the flavour and nutrition profile can also take a bit of practise and recipe tweaking too.

With a talented and passionate chef such as Tony creating our recipes, this is just another unique quality of our organic bone broth powders.
